Be part of the solution, not the pollution! Here in Scoil Mhuire, we are huge fans of the bicycle, for so many reasons-not only are they excellent for both mental and physical health and fun to ride, but they are one of the most sustainable forms of transport. Following the most recent report on climate change, it seems ever more pressing that we make use of these wonderful machines! National Bike Week runs September 12th to 18th this year and celebrates cycling – be it on your journey to school or just for fun! We aim to promote the use of bikes in our school all year round but we are placing a particular emphasis on cycling for this special week. We have organised activities and lessons around bike safety, and the promotion of a greener way of travelling, and we are excited for all students to take part. This year, we are taking part in National Cycle on Wednesday (COW) on the 15th and we encourage children to cycle to school safely (with helmet and hi-vis) and with supervision. If this isn't practical, a cycle around your home or favourite trail would be great too! We would love to publish some of your pictures of cycling together (don't forget scooters and push bikes too!) on the website, so please feel free to send them to my email: [email protected], if you wish. Happy cycling! Ms. Holman. P.S. Cycling is an important life skill to master so when better to teach your child how to cycle than during Bike Week? I've included some videos you may find helpful below.
