Road Safety is of huge importance to us here in Scoil Mhuire. We take great pride in the fact that since we have returned to school we have made renewed efforts to increase road safety and road awareness outside our gates.
It has also been brought to the attention of the Board of Management that a group of parents and grandparents sought action in helping to facilitate traffic calming measures outside our school. We greatly welcome this.
The safety of our pupils when entering and leaving our school is always a huge source of concern. With this in mind, children are only permitted to leave school grounds when they are collected by a parent or adult, and we encourage all parents to walk their children to the school gate every morning. Another huge concern we have is the safety of those travelling on the road between our school and Páistí Beaga, as children are walking from one building to the other without a designated and safe place to cross.
It’s great that there are so many bodies involved in helping to make the road outside our school a safer place, including our local councillors and many residents, parents and grandparents. We commend you for your action.
The Board of Management fully support any work which will be carried out that in turn will make our road a safer place for all our students and indeed the local community. We look forward to working in partnership with Wexford County Council, its representatives and all bodies or companies in the local area in making this happen. We are certain that the need for such a project is not just sought but that it’s a necessity and we hope it will be prioritised.
