Bike Week is an annual celebration and promotion of the benefits of cycling with over 900 events taking place across the country, including family events, heritage cycles, maintenance workshops, and learn-to-cycle events.

Here in Scoil Mhuire, we encourage our students to come to school in a 'green way', when it is possible and safe to do so. Students regularly walk, scoot, car-pool and cycle to school.

To celebrate Bike Week (13th - 21st May), we are encouraging all our students to make a particular effort to cycle or scoot to school in a safe manner and to also get out and about in the evenings and at weekends!

In school, we have a large bike rack located beside the shed where students can park their bikes and scooters. Additionally, we are currently in the process of updating our storage facilities, with a new bike and scooter rack on the way! Many thanks to Green Schools Ireland (An Taisce) and SECAD Windfarm Community Funds for providing support and funding for this project.

There are so many benefits to cycling including:
  • Improving fitness
  • Relieving stress
  • Bonding time with the family
  • Supports a positive mental attitude
  • Improves attention levels and performance in school
  • Helps with sleep

Take a look at some of the video links below for cycling and scooting tips and tricks!
