Earlier in the school year, Sixth Class designed a maths trail for our class. We had to tell the time, create a pattern, show numbers on an abacus and lots more. We loved it. It was excellent. Thank you Sixth Class.
Earlier in the school year, we became Seatbelt Sheriffs. We got a badge and a certificate. We also designed Seatbelt Sheriff posters. It's our job to remember to wear our own seatbelt or use a booster seat if it's needed. We also have to remind other people to put on their seatbelts. Buckle up!
Ms Druhan gave each group a bundle of Knex and she set us a challenge. We had to make something that would help us to cross a river. Some of us made boats and some of us made bridges. Here are our structures!
Firstly we put some newspaper on the tables. Each group got a plate and a plastic cup. We put the cup in the middle of the plate and we put flour around the cup so that it looked like a volcano. We put 3 spoons of bread soda into the plastic cup. We also put in a drop of food colouring to change the colour and we put in some washing-up liquid to speed up the reaction and to make more bubbles. Lastly Ms Druhan measured out 50ml of vinegar. We poured the vinegar in to the volcano and we waited. The volcano erupted and the lava flowed down the mountain. It was exciting.
First Class made gifts for our mammies. We made flowers out of felt and lollipop sticks and we used glue to stick them together. We used old milk cartons as pots. We printed some wrapping paper using potatoes, cotton buds, plastic forks, plastic cups and corks. We wrapped the paper around the pots and attached our greeting labels with ribbon. We hope our mammies love them. We think they are beautiful! Happy Mothers Day.
First Class made butter. We put some cream in a plastic bottle and we all had a turn shaking the bottle. Eventually, the cream turned in to butter. There was also buttermilk in the bottle. We spread the butter on some wheat crackers and we tasted the butter. There was no salt in our butter so it tasted a little bit different. Some children loved it. Some children didn't enjoy it at all!
