After our meeting today, we completed a quick, five minute tidy-up of our school grounds.
We filled one bag with rubbish that we found mostly stuck in the hedges around the basketball court. We found polystyrene, plastic wrappers, a plastic bowl and tin foil! This rubbish would be very harmful to our wildlife and for our environment so we are happy that we have disposed of it safely. We spent five minutes cleaning but made a big difference to our school.

We want to say a massive thank you to anyone that made an effort to cycle this week, we had a great response to bike week. We took surveys at the start and the end of the week and we saw a twenty five percent increase in most classes making an extra effort during bike week.
Thanks again to everyone that sent in a photo, and we would love to see the efforts continue. Paddy and Ruby-The Green School Committee. The Big Beach Clean 2021 will take place between the 17th and 19th of September. The Big Beach Clean is a Clean Coasts initiative that usually takes place in September, with the end of the bathing season. County Wexford is the proud home to some of the best beaches in Ireland. Wexford boasts a series of stretched, sandy beaches which are ideal for building sandcastles, swimming, exploring rock pools or collecting shells! We are very lucky in our community to live so close to many stunning beaches-Carne, in particular, being the most popular. To keep our beloved beaches beautiful, we must all work together to leave our beaches cleaner than we found them! It is undeniable that there has been a significant rise in marine pollution, particularly in the last few years but the great news is there's a simple way to help-and all it takes is 2 minutes! We are asking everyone who goes to the beach to do their very own #2minutebeachclean. If you would like to document your great work, we would be delighted to share your picture on our school website (email msholman.ourladysislandns@gmail.com) or you can take a photo of the litter you collect and post your snap on Instagram/Twitter/Facebook with the hashtags #2minutebeachclean and #cleancoasts. It’s as easy as that! For more information, click on the links and videos below! |
